Sam Houston State University - Biology Building
Background
The existing science building was over 30 years old and was inadequate for today's needs for teaching laboratories and research space. The Challenge The University wanted to be able to easily change the teaching and research laboratories to adapt to the needs of the professors. The Solution The new Biology building answered the need for updated and expanded teaching laboratories, as well as research laboratories for graduate students and professors. We collaborated closely with the architect to help create flexible laboratories that will meet the needs of the University for years to come. Teaching areas were customized to meet the needs of each discipline, while at the same time, having the flexibility to be adapted to new requirements as the biology program grows at the University. Research laboratories were designed to be easily modified with mobile benches and base cabinets that can be reconfigured to adjust to new requirements within each research space.
